Kettlebell 101 – Why Kettlebells?
What are kettlebells?
Kettlebells are a multifunctional athletic tool known to build strength and conditioning that anyone of any ability can use! Kettlebells are a ball of solid mass weight resembling a mini-cannonball with a handle located on the top. Because of this shape, moving the kettlebell creates an unstable force that the body has to adapt to stabilize for control.
Why should I train with kettlebells?
Kettlebells allow for a variety of movements including presses, pulls, carries, and swings. It can help activate and target various muscle groups that equipment machines cannot because its design allows you to move across different planes of motion. As a result of this, anyone with fitness related outcomes or goals can benefit from kettlebells. It is one of the best functional tools out there to mimic whole body, real-life movements. Because traditional equipment like barbells and exercise facilities can be on the expensive end, kettlebells offer an affordable and accessible alternative that can be done anywhere!
What are the benefits of training with kettlebells?
Multiple studies have shown that training with kettlebells improve both aerobic capacity/power and increase strength no matter what age. Another study showed that even after 8 weeks of kettlebell training, elderly women (aged 65-75 years) improved their grip and back strength. Our Reload clients love to use kettlebells due to their dynamic nature – it forces our clients to move better, efficiently, and explosively due to the unstable force of the kettlebell. Due to its unique design, it forces your body to transfer weight load to different sides of your body and expose any weaknesses you may have. By alternating contraction with controlled relaxation, it forces your body to adapt and as a result increase endurance and strength.
